| THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS SPECIFICATIONS & USE |
Standard “SR3 3.25” ribbons are a construction of a polyester carrier with a proprietary wax-resin coating of black, white, or other color. All ribbons have a vendor comformance certification and meet SEIP purchasing specifications and printability requirements (black & white meet SAE-AS81531 permanency testing).
Black ribbon is certified by SEIP to have a two-year shelf life at storage conditions consistent with SAE-AMS-DTL-23053/5 polyolefin heat shrink tubings (18°C to 35°C). White and other colors of ribbons are certified to a minimum of six-month shelf life.
Sumimark® “SR3 3.25 super ribbon" is available to provide superior mark permanence, both for resistance to abrasion and aggressive fluids. Black (only) “super ribbon” is very thin with a unique coating that allows for increased thermal printing speeds and lower print-head power requirements.
For both the standard “SM3 3.25” and the “SM3 3.25 super ribbon” adjustments to the Sumimark® III thermal printing system should be:
Set printing speed to either five or six inches per second. |
Reduce the “darkness” setting to approximately 20%. |
SEIP laboratory testing of both ribbon formulas has demonstrated that these settings are resulting in superior marks on small and large diameter tubings.
We are expecting the side benefits of increased print-head reliability and a lessening of ribbon wrinkling.
WARNING!
DO NOT SHUT DOWN PRINTER POWER OR RELEASE THE PRINT HEAD DURING THE PRINTING PROCESS. THIS MAY RESULT IN PRINT HEAD DAMAGE.
