Occasionally customers may request odd sizes such as 5/16", 7/32", 5/8", etc. In some cases, there may exist a standard metric size that is close to the requested fractional size. This is particularly true with commercial grade poly such as F2(Z) and similar items. Table 1 lists the closest metric equivalents for some of the more commonly requested non-standard fractional inch sizes.
Alternatively, someone may request a metric (mm) size because a product may be specified in Japan or Europe, but the assembly is built in North America. In these cases, the end user sometimes has the flexibility to order fractional equivalents if it means, for example, being able to procure the material locally. Table 2 lists the closest fractional inch sizes for common metric tubing call-outs.
